"My painting is based on the drama that arises when shapes,
texture and color meet and interact with one another"

Artist's Statement

Art is soul therapy. It soothes the heart, the mind and the body
and at the same time provides an escape from everyday life. It’s
a place to express feelings while discovering likes and dislikes
- a playground of endless opportunities. That’s why I do it. In the
process, I hope the viewer can experience peace, feel joy, find
hope, or receive inspiration. I believe the true test of my
success is whether the viewer can experience one of these gifts.
I create one-of-a kind acrylic paintings using a multi-layered
approach. The technique I use involves the building of surface
texture and captures the essence of the texture itself. The character
of the texture is then brought to life using a dark color to
illuminate the raised edges. People are compelled
to touch the paintings to experience the tactile quality of the
surface.
At times, when I move from step-to-step through the layered
process, I question whether the composition has the design
elements I see in my mind’s eye. But by the time I accent the
raised areas the painting takes on new life and meaning. It’s as
if someone turned on the lights and illuminated the delicate
details. I wait in anticipation for this step, as this is the
heart and soul that creates drama and distinguishes my style.
